Little Things, Lately. February.

February has been quiet. And honestly, I’ve loved that.

It’s our slow season work-wise, which means the days feel a little less rushed and the small things have more room to show up. These are the ones that have been filling my cup lately.

Crafting for the mantle.
For the first time ever, I have a mantle. Zach built custom built-ins with a fireplace for my birthday, and suddenly I’m very invested in decorating it. I’ve been making paper garlands and leaning into a full DIY year. Partly to save money, partly because crafting at the end of the day feels surprisingly grounding. Also, it turns out I really enjoy making something just to enjoy it.

Studio sessions.
There’s a beautiful studio just minutes from my house that I’ve been using, and it’s opened up a whole new world creatively. Different light, different pace, different ways of seeing. It’s been really fun to explore what’s possible there and let my photography stretch a bit.

Morning qigong.
I’ve started my mornings with a short YouTube qigong practice, and it has quickly become one of my favorite habits. Gentle movement, slow breaths, no pressure to be productive right away. It’s been such a good way to start the day feeling intentional and actually in tune with my body.

Dutch Bros, finally.
This one feels a little silly, but I don’t care. Zach and I have always treated Dutch Bros as a travel treat when we’re out west, so having one open in my hometown feels almost unreal. A guilty pleasure, yes. But a very joyful one.

The return of the red-winged blackbirds.
Every year, this is the first sign that spring is on its way. That flash of red feels like a quiet promise that winter isn’t going to last forever.

Daylight until 7:00 pm.
I know daylight savings is coming and things will shift again, but right now the light hanging around a little longer has been such a gift. Enough time for slower evenings. Enough sun to feel hopeful.

That’s February around here. A slower pace, small joys, and a season that’s felt exactly like what I needed.
