The first time I met Caitlin we sat on the patio of Public Greens for hours drinking green tea and getting to know one another. She told me all about Abby, beaming with love and pride as she told me about her firefighting fiance and their love story.
The first time I met Abby she asked me if it was ok if she gave Caitlin a letter she wrote her during their engagement session, a tradition she has kept going since they met.
These are just tiny glimpses into the relationship that these extraordinary people share, but I feel that it really sets the tone for sharing these images. Individually, they are amazing people, but together – they are incredible. You see, Caitlin and Abby have a love that is so deep that it’s almost tangible. Just being around them has the power to make your soul feel fuller somehow. I’m so thankful that Abby and Caitlin brought Zach and I along for their wedding adventure, but even more thankful that I gained two wonderful friends along the way.
Caitlin and Abby’s Wedding Day
The Olympic View Cabins sit back off of a winding road in Port Angeles, Washington. A long gravel drive way weaves you through the woods to the two smaller cabins that are tucked into the trees. A mowed path through tall grass connects the cabins, each one unique and full of character. As you walk down the path, blue dragonflies buzz around you and the chilly Pacific Northwest air blows your hair gently. And then – there it is. A view that could easily be a Bob Ross painting or a post card. (heck, it probably is.) A view that will stop you dead in your tracks. The Olympic Mountains are a stunning sight all on their own, but combined with the tall pines and fields of wildflowers at their base, this place is truly something special. It was the perfect place for Caitlin and Abby to get married!
Caitlin and Abby’s wedding day was one of the most relaxed weddings I’ve ever been apart of and I mean that in the very best way! One of my favorite things about their day was seeing how everyone pitched in to help make it so wonderful. Family members could be found baking home made pies, picking wildflowers to make into bouquets and boutonnieres, preparing lunch for everyone and even officiating the wedding – everyone was overjoyed to share in such a special day. The feeling of love and celebration was everywhere! Another highlight for me was that Abby not only read vows to Caitlin, but to Caitlin’s daughter, Olive too. After she was finished, she gave little Olive a beautiful necklace to mark the occasion. I’m pretty certain everyone there was crying, myself included. There was also a ring warming ceremony, which allowed for each family member to hold the rings briefly while saying a wish or prayer for Abby and Caitlin’s marriage. It was beautiful!
As the sun went down, Caitlin and Abby shared their first dance, surrounded by mountains, their family and dreamy, golden light. Nourish provided a delicious meal and everyone sat around the table laughing and telling stories. It was like something out of a movie. Towards the end of the night, Abby and Caitlin enjoyed chocolate chip cookies and the most incredible pies made by Abby’s mom. It was the absolute best day with the absolute best couple. Congratulations, Caitlin and Abby!
