Black Iris Estate sits just off a busy road in Carmel, Indiana. With striking black shutters and impressive columns, it’s hard to not turn to look at this elegant wedding venue as you drive by. But once inside, the activity of the busy roads of Carmel fade as you find yourself gazing in awe at the grand staircase and gilded mirrors of the entryway. Charmed by the historic details, sprawling grounds and whimsical willow chapel, Ally and Hayden knew it was a dream location to begin their marriage. Their Black Iris Estate wedding was perfect in every way and I am delighted to share it with you!
Getting Ready
Ally began her day with hair and makeup. Madeline Eleanor created a stunning bridal look for Ally that was elegant and romantic. From her white floral shoes to her unbelievable dress, every little detail was thoughtfully chosen by Ally. Everything came together so flawlessly and Ally was radiant! All the ladies were eager to see Ally in her dress, even her sweet flower girls who peeked through the french doors to catch a glimpse of the beautiful bride!
After Ally was in her dress, she shared a very special first look with her dad, Kerry. While her sweet mom looked on.
Hayden and his groomsmen all looked handsome in classic black suits. They kept him laughing as we counted down the moments until the ceremony! What a great group of guys! Hayden is such an easy going and kind soul. It was really great to grab a few minutes with just him for some groom portraits before heading back inside!
The Ceremony
A few years ago, the team at Black Iris Estate lovingly created the willow chapel. In my opinion it is one of the most stunning features on their property, and likely in all of Carmel. Back then it was just seedlings and saplings. But these days it is an impressive chapel, a juxtaposition of iron and nature. The willow branches have filled in to create a whimsical oasis. Lush ferns lined the aisle and a gorgeous arch from Blue Blossom Rentals added a splendid touch of delicate florals. It was the perfect place for Ally to walk down the aisle to her handsome Hayden!
As guests settled into their seats, raindrops fell from above and the sun slipped behind the clouds. But the thing about Ally and Hayden is that they roll with the punches. And a few raindrops weren’t going to stop them from becoming husband and wife. As Hayden’s eyes fell on his bride, he let out a slow breath from between his lips. A smile grew across his face and the two locked eyes as Ally, escorted by her father, made her way down the aisle.
Ally and Hayden’s ceremony was special. They included so many important people in their lives which was beautiful to see. Their mothers each spoke and they shared communion during their ceremony. They tied a unity knot and signed their certificate right there at the alter. Hayden and Ally truly value marriage and made it a point to include these special traditions that they will remember for the rest of their lives. And there, under the willow branches dotted with rain drops, Hayden and Ally became husband and wife!
The Reception
Soon it was time to celebrate this couple with dinner and dancing! The Black Iris Estate ballroom was gold and glowing in gorgeous sunlight. Pops of pink roses filled the room and a wooden wall with the repurposed floral arch completed the space! Guests cheered as Ally and Hayden entered the ballroom. And following toasts and a few special dances, they cut their Cake Bake Shop wedding cake!
Sunset Photos
Due to the rainy skies right after their ceremony, we weren’t able to get too many photos of just Ally and Hayden at that time. But the sunset had a surprise in store for us! We slipped outside towards the end of dinner and were greeted with the most dazzling golden light! Ally and Hayden spent some time strolling through the trees, bathed in beautiful light.
We had an incredible time with these two during their engagement session last fall, so we knew we’d have a great time with them on their wedding day too. They are both so calm and easy to be around, laugh effortlessly and love deeply. Ally and Hayden both work tirelessly towards building their future and they do so with flawless teamwork. They are truly a couple to be admired and being their wedding photographer was a dream. From laughing about wedding dress pockets with Ally to seeing Hayden’s pure joy as he drove off into the sunset in his beloved truck with his wife by his side, these two have a special place in this wedding photographer’s heart.
Congratulations Ally and Hayden! We are so happy for you both!
