The first time I spoke to Wendy over Facetime (she was living in D.C. at the time) – she started telling me about her and Eli’s wedding. The ceremony would be held at Eli’s family church, and the reception would be at her childhood church. Right away I fell in love with the fact that they were selecting such meaningful locations, how special is that? But then Wendy paused. “Have you ever watched Parks and Rec?” she asked. A grin formed on my face. “Of course!” I nearly shouted into the screen, trying to not totally nerd out about one of my favorite shows. Wendy went on to explain that their reception was going to have nods to Parks and Rec, a show that both her and Eli love. I was SO in.
As we walked into the cabin the day before the wedding, Zach and I were immediately greeted by several members of Danna and Tyler’s families, two adorable dogs and one of the most incredible mountainside getaways I have ever seen. Danna’s mom, Denna, lead the team in the kitchen, getting dinner ready for all thirty or so people – each one gathered together under one roof to celebrate Danna and Tyler. The large cabin was filled floor to ceiling with the sounds of laughter and video games, excited energy and of course, love.
I first met Allie when I photographed her older brother Drew’s wedding to his stunning bride, Aryn back in December. Their wedding day was simply amazing and I came to absolutely adore Aryn and Drew! But I also got to know the Hueston family and it was clear that this family is full of fun, good humor and of course, lots of love. They are all just really awesome people! So when I saw the sweet interactions between Allie and her boyfriend, Jared, on Instagram – I knew they would be a super fun couple to work with for a “just for fun” photo session!
As Zach and I pulled out of the parking lot of Central Park in Carmel following Samantha and Travis’s engagement session my cheeks seriously hurt from smiling so much. I guess I should have known this would happen. It had happened the first time I met Samantha during our in person consultation several months ago. I sat there with her mom at Starbucks laughing for what was probably hours. I felt an instant connection to Sam, so it was no surprise when I laughed just as hard with Travis as well.
Zach and I arrived early for Josh and Scott’s engagement session. It was hot out so we decided to kill some time at one of my favorite stores that just so happened to be across the street from where we were to meet. As I perused Silver in the City I glanced up to see that Josh and Scott were there too! Hey, great minds think alike!
As Amanda and Jason rounded the corner from the parking garage and headed toward us I felt one solitary raindrop land on my elbow. “Maybe it’ll pass” I thought to myself as they drew closer with each step. After all, I’d been keeping a close eye on the forecast all day. The chances were pretty low and up until this very moment the sun had been shining brightly down on the Butler University campus in Indianapolis. There was no way it could rain.
