What’s It Like to Be An Alison Mae Couple?

When I first sit down with a new couple, one question that almost always comes up is “So.. what is it like to work with you?” After all, chances are this is your first time working with a wedding photographer first hand, so this question makes a lot of sense. It’s something that I am eager to talk about because I am a big fan of open and honest communication so I think it’s great to know what to expect from the beginning. Plus, every photographer does things just a little bit differently. So I’m excited to share what it’s like to be an Alison Mae couple with you!

My passion for wedding photography isn’t actually photography. Crazy, right? But here’s the thing: it’s the people. I have a heart for serving others. My love language is acts of service all day – nothing makes my heart happier than serving others well. I am wildly passionate about providing a service for you that is nothing short of exceptional. Why? Because this is your WEDDING DAY! It’s the day you’ve been dreaming of, it’s the first day of your marriage! And to me, that’s a really big deal.

So today I am sharing a big part of my heart with you. I’ll try to keep it short, but no promises! And if any of this resonates with you, please send me an email. I’d love to hear from you!

1.) Friendship First

I am not interested in just showing up on your wedding day and telling you where to stand. I want to walk into your wedding day as your friend. Someone who knows your story: how you met, how you knew he was the one, what she does to make you laugh, what you’re most looking forward to on you big day. So from our first email exchange, I want to get to know you. When I say “tell me everything” in the inquiry form – I am NOT kidding! I’ll send over my investment guide where you’ll not only learn about my services, but my little family too. Because I want you to know who I am as well. From there, we’ll set up a time to grab coffee (Starbucks is on me!) or video chat so that we can get to know one another further face to face.

This meeting is also a great time for you to ask me any questions you may have. As I mentioned above, I believe that open and honest communication is so important and am fully transparent with all of my couples. We’ll go over everything so that you feel totally comfortable!

2.) Make it Official

Once you and your fiance talk it over, if you decide that I am the photographer for you – we will make it official! I’ll send over a short questionnaire that covers your preferred payment plan. From there I will create a custom proposal for you and send it to you within a couple of days. Inside you will find a breakdown of the services we discussed, your payment plan and link to online payment, our agreement and a place to sign electronically. Once your retainer payment is made and you have both signed our agreement, we are good to go!

I’ll also send you a link to the Alison Mae Client Lounge where you will find all kinds of resources such as vendor referrals and timeline suggestions.

3.) Engagement Session

Now that you’re offcially an #alisonmaecouple, it’s time to start planning your engagement session. Hooray! I’ll send you an engagement session planning guide that is packed with my top tips. From locations to outfit choices, I’ve got you covered. Engagement sessions average about 90 minutes and I encourage couples to bring two outfits, but if you’d prefer to stick to just one look, that’s ok too! Check out this post for a sneak peek of my engagement session tips!

Engagement sessions are a wonderful way to continue getting to know one another before your wedding. It’s also a great time for me to go over my posing with you so that on your wedding day – when we don’t have as much time –  you are a seasoned pro!

4.) Planning

I’m the type of person who likes to have a back up plan. And a back up plan for that plan. So when it comes to your wedding day I like to be incredibly organized. My trick for this? Talking through all of your details ahead of time. I’ll send you two questionnaires. One will cover your family members so that I can help you create a family formal shot list. The other will cover any other details I’ll need to know prior to your wedding such as your ceremony start time, where you’ll be getting ready and what time your reception is set to begin. From here, I’ll help you create a custom photography timeline and team up with your planner or coordinator to make sure we are all on the same page!

5.) Your Wedding Day

Hooray, your wedding day is here! The first thing I will do when arriving to a wedding is find the bridal suite and give you a giant hug! From there, I’ll get started on photographing and styling your wedding details while catching some fun candids at the same time.

Through out the day, I will have a couple of different photography styles that I will bounce back and forth between. There are moments on the wedding day that I take a step back and let the moments unfold genuinely while I capture them on camera. However, there are also times where I will step in and take the lead with posing and prompting. You’ll notice this during your family formal and bridal party portraits especially! And speaking of family formals, we have an organized system for this part of the day. We like to keep it flowing so we can get you to your celebration as quickly as possible!

When it comes to the bride and groom portraits, I like a combination of classic and modern poses. Over the years I’ve learned how to put you in poses that look and feel natural, and I’ll tell you exactly what to do. You can relax and just enjoy the moment!

As the day goes on, I love to interact cheerfully and professionally with your guests so that they feel comfortable with me while I’m photographing them. It really goes a long way in getting amazing photos of your guests! As for the dance floor, you’d better believe I will be out there with you, camera in hand!

6.) Relive Your Day

After your wedding, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite images in a blog post, so keep an eye out for that. And then, one month after your wedding you’ll receive your full wedding gallery! Your gallery will be good for ten years! How cool is that? And you’ll be able to download your images right to your computer or device in either high resolution or web sized images, your choice. You can opt to print where you wish, but you can also order prints right from the gallery! And my favorite part? Sharing your gallery with you friends and family couldn’t be easier. Just send them the link!

So snuggle up on the couch, hit play on the slideshow inside your gallery and get ready to relive every amazing moment of your wedding day! Your wedding will go by so fast. Beautiful, timeless wedding images are such a treasure!

7.) Albums

We offer ala cart heirloom albums – thoughtfully curated with archival paper and your choice of leather or linen covering. These albums are the perfect way to enjoy your images for years to come! Following your wedding I will be in touch to see if you’d like to place an order.

8.) Stay in Touch

I tell all of my couples that once they book with me, they are my friends for life, and I really mean that! I care about each couple I work with and love keeping up with them long after their weddings. Seeing their families grow and cheering them on in their marriages makes my heart so happy! So if you work with me, plan ahead for lots of love from us for years to come!

If you’re still with me and you think that I’d be a good fit as your wedding photographer, I’d love to connect! Click here to say hello!
