As a wedding photographer, engagement sessions are one of my favorite parts of the wedding process. Cute photos for your save the dates? Deal. But did you know that engagement sessions actually serve you in a lot of other ways when it comes to your wedding day? This is something I am very passionate about so I’m excited to share with you why I think you need an engagement session with me or whomever your wedding photographer might be. Here goes!
When I show up to the wedding day, I want to have all of my best tools in my bag, both literally and figuratively. I want to do my absolute best for you, because you deserve it. I want to know that you’re close with your mom so you’ll probably cry when she buttons up your dress, that your best friend from college will be flying in from out of state and that you’re surprising your groom with a song written just for him during your reception. These are things that help me anticipate moments on your big day so that I can be in the right place at the right time. Wedding days move fast and these special moments can be fleeting.
In the same way, I need to be able to have a good understanding of your personalities so that I can anticipate what will make you laugh and maybe even what doesn’t. One of the best ways to do that is to have an engagement session! Every couple is unique, which is one of my favorite things about what I do. So getting you in front of my lens really helps me see how you interact as a couple! As we work our way through the engagement session, we will work through any discomfort you might have and find what works best for you posing and prompt wise. Spoiler alert, we’ll share a lot of laughs too!
One of my biggest goals as a wedding photographer is to create images that capture natural laugher, effortless joy and plenty of romance. So, knowing my couples well before the big day is my secret sauce for getting those images you see in my portfolio. Because as we are clicking away during that engagement session, we aren’t just taking photos. We’re sharing stories, we’re laughing and we’re forming a friendship and to me, this is absolutely priceless.
