I dialed her number and held my breath. The introvert in me squirmed a little as I prepared my paper and pen, ready to take notes. Before I knew it, two.. maybe three hours had gone by and I had hardly written a thing. From the first few minutes of the phone call, I knew immediately that Meghan was an extraordinary person and even if I didn’t get to be her wedding photographer, I wanted to be her friend. As we talked, she shared her story with me and I could not help but be in awe of this girl. She told me how she had moved across the country only for life to send her an unexpected twist that would send most of us running. But instead of packing her bags and heading back to Indiana, she went to the animal shelter instead. (Right? She’s my kind of person!) There, she met a sweet little pup who caught her attention. Her name? Indy. It was meant to be and Meghan took it as a sign that she was right where she needed to be and that Indy was meant to be her girl.
Fast forward a little and Meghan had started branching out in her new community and had made new friends. Her friend Dana and her sweet husband thought that maybe… just maybe.. Meghan would hit it off with their friend Jeff, so they invited her to a sporting event of some kind where he would be and well, they were right! (Good friends!) I didn’t have the chance to chat with Jeff that first night on the phone, but I did get to meet him last December when they came home for Christmas. The thing about Jeff is – you only have to spend a matter of minutes with him and you feel like you’ve known him your whole life! He is genuine and kind and I could instantly see how he and Meghan make such a wonderful pair. I drove home from Starbucks that afternoon more excited than ever for June to arrive so I could celebrate with them on their wedding day!
Finally, the day arrived! Meghan greeted me at the door of her parents’ home with Indy at her feet. I’m pretty sure I said hi to Indy before I said hi to Meghan (oops!) but I’m sure this didn’t surprise her in the slightest. The house was full of sunlight and excitement. Meghan and Jeff had opted to not have an official bridal party and instead Meghan had a “bride tribe” – a concept that I LOVED! (Shout out to each of you girls – you were all AMAZING!) Every member of her bride tribe was a beloved family member or friend from the various chapters of her life and all of them were gathered in the kitchen, laughing and enjoying the morning with the stunning bride to be. As I photographed Meghan and Jeff’s details I couldn’t help but smile as I saw a piano in the front room of the house and wonder just how many times Meghan had played that piano on her journey to become a music teacher. Following a letter and a gift from Jeff, the girls headed to The Barn at Hawks Point to get the party started! Meghan surprised her girls with a dress reveal and it was awesome! Jeff spent the early afternoon in the shade of the tall trees that surround the venue and had some help from his parents as he got ready. They took turns making one another laugh and as they did I could see where Jeff gets his awesome sense of humor and laid back attitude. What a great family!
Every detail was flawless and perfectly executed for Meghan and Jeff’s wedding, but the florals were out of this world! Romantic soft pink roses, light blue love in a mist and cascading greenery lended their beauty everywhere you looked! Their ceremony was as sentimental as it was sweet, with Jeff’s sister and Meghan’s brother both reading passages and Meghan’s cousin officiating. Meghan’s former teacher even played violin! It certainly was hot out, but as Meghan and Jeff said their vows to one another no one even noticed the heat. Before long it was time to head into the reception! One of my favorite moments of the evening was when Meghan’s grandmother and Jeff’s grandfather – both in their nineties – met for the first time. How special to have them both in attendance! As guests finished a delicious dinner, speeches were given and Meghan and Jeff cut their yummy cake before sharing their first dance as husband and wife. As the evening wore on, guests enjoyed lawn games – including a personalized corn hole game, made just for the occasion, and snacked on the most adorable cookies I have ever seen before sending Meghan and Jeff off in style with a sparkler exit!
Meghan and Jeff – I wish you all the happiness this world has to offer! I know Jeff will always protect your beautiful, huge and compassionate heart, Meghan. Just as I know Meghan will always support your dreams and laugh at your jokes, Jeff. (Even if she rolls her eyes at the jokes a little.) And one thing is for certain – you lives will always be full of a lot of joy, music and tons and tons of love. Congratulations Mr. + Mrs. Greenwell!
