Newfields Garden Engagement Session |Indianapolis, Indiana | Taylor + Carlos

Carlos and Taylor’s engagement session at Newfields (formerly the IMA) in Indianapolis was an absolute dream! Spring arrived late this year, but I was so happy to see it show up just in time for this session! If you’ve never been to Newfields, I highly suggest picking a date on your calendar and making a day of it!  Not only is it an incredible museum, but there are the most beautiful gardens on the property with blooming flowers, an elegant mansion, statues and even a beer garden! Across the river you’ll find 100 Acres: The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art and Nature Park – complete with hiking trails, a gorgeous pond and of course: amazing works of art. This place is pure magic! And it made the perfect location for Carlos and Taylor’s engagement session. Not just because of it’s beauty, but because it was where Carlos first asked Taylor to be his girlfriends years ago!

The 100 Acres section of Newfields is full of fun everywhere you look! One of my favorite parts is how they have flawlessly incorporated art into nature. We made sure to check out a couple of the installments including Funky Bones by Atelier Van Lieshout, a Dutch artist collective led by Joep van Lieshout and Team Building (Align) by artist collective Type A. This sculpture represents the concept of two bodies joining to form a third, distinct entity without losing their own identities – which was a perfect fit for engagement photos. Plus, at noon on the summer solstice the two shadows overlap. Cool, right?

Just through the iron gates behind Newfields is a lush paradise. Pathways wind their way through branches and blooms making you feel like you’ve stumbled upon a secret garden all your own. We explored the beautifully landscaped grounds as Carlos and Taylor showed me the bench where Carlos had nervously asked Taylor to be his girlfriend. Squirrels scurried up trees and the wind blew light yellow daffodils gently. Taylor lifted the hem of her gorgeous floral dress as these two walked hand in hand through this beautiful place, enjoying in the beauty of the day but also in the love they have for each other. I cannot wait for their wedding this summer at The Barn at Hawks Point!
