I love to have a plan. Actually, that’s not exactly true, I like to have a plan, a back up plan and a back up plan for that one should it fall through. I’m constantly thinking hours, days, months.. years ahead. My mind is always swirling with what I want to do next, both in my personal life and in my business. Because of this mentality, I struggle to slow down long enough to enjoy my victories. I’m trying to be better about that.
The truth is, I have a lot to be thankful for and I want to take some time to celebrate a years worth of incredible adventures, moments and experiences. 2017 was not with out its dark moments, but I try not to focus on those and instead find the silver lining and keep moving forward. Life is what you make it, after all.
We started wedding season off with a wedding in Las Vegas! Our friends, Kyle and Jennifer tied the knot amongst the red rock not too far from the Vegas strip. It was absolutely breathtaking! While in Vegas, Zach and I hired a photographer and even had some photos of our own done! After our session we ended up staying out in the desert just to watch the sunset and take some fun silhouette photos.
One of Zach and I’s favorite things to do is explore. So when we left Las Vegas we rented a car and headed for Phoenix, making stops at The Hoover Dam, The Grand Canyon, a gas station straight of of a comic boo and a couple little towns along Route 66. We even got to hike through a conservation park filled with cacti. It was incredible to experience a part of the country that is totally different than what we are used to in Indiana!
For those of you who don’t know, I am just head over heels for our sweet nephew, Asher. Time with him is especially meaningful – as he is rarely in the United States. This year we were fortunate to spend time with him THREE times in THREE different states and I got in as many Asher cuddles as I could. Of course, I love our FaceTime chats, but I treasure the times I get to see him in person.
Zach and I have been to Nashville many times and absolutely love it! It’s such a fun little get away that’s not too far from Indianapolis. So when Megan mentioned that she had never been, we decided a trip was in order! We hit up all the best spots for brunch, checked out some adorable little shops, browsed farmers markets, toured a distillery, and even met up with some of our other friends who were also there for the weekend. We had a blast!
This year we had the opportunity to photograph a stunning wedding just outside of Gatlinburg. We got to spend the weekend with an incredible couple and were welcomed as part of their family! Plus, they made sure that we had an awesome cabin with a beautiful view for our stay! And best of all? We made friends for life – yay Tyler and Danna!
In September we welcomed Nova into our little family. For years we’d been searching for a sister for Willow and this was the year she found us! She and Willow have become fast friends and share a special bond. But Nova is the opposite of Willow in a lot of ways and we are enjoying watching her unique personality blossom.
A lot of people struggle with the idea of turning 30, but I welcomed it with open arms. And the best part? My awesome best friend and husband planned a surprise party for me! So fun!
After saving for what felt like forever, Zach and I found our dream home and promptly put in an offer. Less than thirty days later we moved in and have been busy working to make it ours. We have incredible neighbors and more space than we know what to do with. Plus, I’ll now have room for a studio which means tons of new photography opportunities await in 2018!
More 2017 Highlights!
So that was 2017. I can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store!
