Today is my 30th birthday and even typing that seems so weird! As an introvert I usually prefer for my birthday to fly under the radar, but this year I decided to fully embrace it. My twenties were awesome and I am so happy that each passing year led me to who I am at this exact moment. From getting married to starting my business, a lot changed in my twenties. But now I’m ready to start this new chapter full steam ahead. Hello there 30. Let’s do this!
As I mentioned above, I am an introvert and I typically don’t talk much about myself, so I thought it might be fun to share some things about me so that others can get to know me a bit better.
.) The first movie I saw in theaters was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
.) I raced Soap Box Derby competitively as a kid and raced in the World Championships when I was eleven. I loved every second of it and I am forever thankful that it was such a big part of my childhood.
.) I have always loved animals and wanted to be a vet when I was little. However I learned that math and science aren’t really my jam. I still love animals dearly and will care for any animal in need that comes my way. When it comes to plants however, they are out of luck.
.) I am a big ole’ Harry Potter nerd and I don’t care who knows it. I am a Ravenclaw through and through and my favorite character is Luna. I love that she isn’t afraid to be herself and will do anything for the ones she loves.
.) My favorite holiday is the 4th of July.
.) I am a proud Maxxinista. I may have one too many cute notebooks from Marshall’s and I’m not sad about it.
.) I am a night owl. Most of my editing is done in the early hours of the morning. It’s when I do my best work.
.) I have no desire to ever go on a cruise. Large bodies of water freak me out.
.) My home always smells of clean linen candles. Honorable mentions include fall scents and lavender.
.) I love to make costumes! I have always loved Tim Burton so a lot of my costumes are inspired by his movies. One of my favorite creations was my take on Corpse Bride.
.) My favorite perfume is Burberry Brit.
.) I love Dr. Pepper. Iced tea is a close second.
.) I am an INFJ. If you’re not familiar with Myers-Briggs personality test, check it out! It is so fascinating and you can learn so much about what makes you.. you!
.) My favorite band is Paper Route. About ten years ago they played their first show in a small gym in my tiny hometown and I have loved them ever since. Go check them out!
.) I love organization. For me, being well organized allows me to reach my full creative potential. I fall somewhere in between left brained and right brained so this just works for me.
.) I share a birthday with my Aunt Anna. In fact, she gave me my first camera. Pretty cool!
.) My favorite TV shows are Arrested Development and Modern Family. I relate to Michael Bluth so much that it hurts sometimes.
.) I purposefully buy the broken animal shaped knick knacks from the clearance section. I feel bad for them that no one will want them so I happily take them home with me.
.) Zach and I love Gordon Ramsay. We have made a habit of judging restaurants we dine in by what we call “G-RAM” standards. When we were in Las Vegas we dined at Gordon Ramsay Steak.. it was perfect and we were speechless.
.) I have cat like reflexes. I once put out a fire at a friends Christmas party with out a seconds hesitation. Maybe in another life I was a fireman.
.) My nephew Asher is my favorite. From the second I laid eyes on this sweet baby I was hooked for life. He moved to Spain in May with my sister and brother in law so it’s not very often that I get to snuggle him in person. But our Facetime calls are the highlight of my week. I can’t wait to watch him grow up even more than he already has!
.) My best friend Megan and I have been best friends for fifteen years. She is one of the best things to have ever happened to me and at this point she is not just my best friend but my sister as well. I swear the universe just knew we needed each other. Plus she is hilarious!
.) I love thrifting. Zach and I love to go to various thrift stores and find old, forgotten things and give them a new life! I always wonder about the stories of their previous owners and what they might have been like.
.) My favorite author is Johnathon Safran Foer. I stumbled upon him on accident years ago when Megan and I split up to find a movie at Blockbuster (yeah it was THAT long ago) and we both met back up holding the same movie, Everything is Illuminated. We watched that movie three times that night. Once I learned that the movie was based on a book, I started reading his novels right away. My favorite book is called Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close – but trust me, it is nothing like the movie.
.) My favorite movies are Big Fish, Everything Is Illuminated and Moulin Rouge. I tend to love whimsical movies that make you think and push the limits of normal. Bonus points if they have an incredible soundtrack.
.) I love exploring. I have talked endlessly in my other blogs about my amazing husband, Zachary, so I will try not to be a broken record here. But there is nothing I love more than exploring someplace new with my handsome husband. I treasure the fact that this is a passion we share and I can’t wait to see the places life will take us in the years to come. Some places in the United States I’d love to visit would be: The Pacific North West, The Redwood Forrest, Louisiana and New York City.
.) I adore Freddie Mercury and Elton John. In fact, I once dressed up for Halloween as Elton John. A freddie Mercury costume is still in the works.
.) I love lazy rivers.
.) I have never left the country. This seems crazy to me, but after buying a home it is my next mission. I’d love to visit my sister, brother in law and nephew in Barcelona.
.) I am a sensitive, odd and old soul. I used to think these things were negative factors in my life, but the older I get the more I am proved otherwise. I’m starting to realize that these are my greatest strengths.
