Jennifer + Kyle | Tappers Arcade Bar Engagement Session | Indianapolis, Indiana

I first met Kyle years ago. I had just moved into a house on his street and as a friend of a friend he came down to say hello and welcome me to the neighborhood. As we talked I couldn’t help but count the similarities that Kyle shared with my then boyfriend (now husband) Zach. I kept thinking of how good of friends they would be.

As the months turned into years Kyle and Zach not only became friends  – but really good friends. In fact, Kyle stood up as a groomsman in our wedding. Kyle is easily one of the most kind hearted and genuine people I have ever met. He loves everyone and you can feel it. Plus, he is the best gift giver ever – he knows you want something before you do! For a small amount of time, Kyle worked just around the corner from Zach and I and he would come by after work for dinner and laughs. We may not have had any leftovers afterwards, but our hearts were full.

Overtime, Kyle’s visits became fewer and farther between and his career took him to a different town. He had started dating someone. At first I couldn’t help but feel sad as we had gotten used to his constant presence in our home. But one rainy evening Kyle brought Jennifer to meet us over drinks at Applebee’s and suddenly it all made sense.

Jennifer is outgoing and smart. Her creativity is unparalleled and she loves cats as much as me! We instantly clicked to the point that we were engrossed in our own conversations, totally forgetting about the guys at the table. On the ride home I smiled thinking back on the evening’s events. If losing Kyle’s dinner visits meant gaining Jen in our lives, I was more than ok with that.

Kyle proposed to Jen one December evening while driving in their car. It was a simple, quiet moment between them and it was perfect. Kyle had talked with Jennifer’s family ahead of time and he proposed to Jen with the same ring that her grandfather proposed to her grandmother with sixty years ago!

For their engagement session, they wanted to do something colorful – to match their love for gaming. Uhm.. yes please. First we headed to an area with brightly colored graffiti with the skyline of Indianapolis standing in the background. As we were walking back to the car we noticed a giant purple thistle standing all alone in the cracked cement – it was begging for a ring shot, who was I to tell it no?

Next we decided to take a break so we stopped into Tappers Arcade Bar. This place is one of the coolest bars in Indianapolis, hands down! They have all kinds of arcade games, pinball machines and a huge selection of cleverly named beers on tap. We were all swooning. I decided to go out on a limb and ask the owner if he minded if we take some photos inside and he said we could. See.. I told you they were cool!

To end our session, we attempted to take some photos in Central Park in Carmel, but we got caught in a rainstorm. Which if you look at the photos below, you can see why I didn’t mind. Jennifer and Kyle also found a turtle! Engagement session bonus!

Zach and I spent last Saturday evening with Kyle and Jennifer as they showed us around their city, Kokomo, Indiana. It was really special to see the life they are building together and meet their adorable cat, Yato. Sitting at dinner with them talking and laughing – I couldn’t help but think back on how sad I was when Kyle first moved away. But now I know that it was for the best reason in the world.

I can’t wait for their wedding next spring in Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas!
